  1. QUESTION:
Whats the best carpet cleaner for pet stains?
Im looking for a carpet cleaner/steamer for around 200 that will remove pet stains in the carpet. answer with the name of it, where to but it , and how much :) thank you!
im in chicago. and also is there a steamer for pet stains?

    • ANSWER:
I don't know where you are asking from, so can't help with details, but I can help you with a little information as a result of way too much experience...

      1. put urine stains have two components that you need to get rid of: the stain and the smell. Getting rid of the stain does not always get rid of the smell.

      2. to get rid of the smell and stain you will need to by an enzyme-based product

      3. all the different ones I have bought over the years have worked OK, but after you test the carpet to make sure that it won't discolour, the secret seems to be to spray heavily, put a plastic bag over it and leave it overnight so that the enzymes can work thoroughly. (enzymes work by 'digesting' the stain/odour causing residue - so time is needed).

In the morning, or the next evening, remove the plastic from over the carpet and allow to evaporate until completely dry (it probably will smell really bad while it does this!) Once it is completely dry - clean with a carpet machine if you have or can borrow one. If not, vacuum, and then rinse with water and vinegar solution.

  2. QUESTION:
how to rid carpet of old set in pet stains?
I have white carpet and my pet has urinated in various spots...I have spot treated them with white vinegar, and used a carpet cleaning machine with bleach/water. although the spots have lightened they are still there......Help!

    • ANSWER:
I would try using oxy clean . . . you could put some tablespoons in a spray bottle, let it dissolve and then spray. For a really persistent stain you could sprinkle some on the carpet and work it in with some water and a scrub brush.

  3. QUESTION:
How do I get rid of carpet stains myself?
I want to buy or rent a carpet cleaning machine and get rid of the stains.. Any ideas?

    • ANSWER:
I love my bissell little pet stain remover machine....you can set it and walk away while it works. when it is done it will beep. or you can use it manually....

      it is great!

  4. QUESTION:
What's the best way to get pet stains out of a carpet?
I'm going to rent a carpet cleaner soon . What's the best way to get pet stains out of a carpet ? What worked for you ?

    • ANSWER:
Bissell Little Green Machine and pet urine neutralizer is the best.
Even better, is potty trianing your dog.

  5. QUESTION:
which is the best deep cleaning portable carpet cleaner?
I have numerous pet stains throughout my carpet. Not all are just pee but a lot of them are diarrhea stains which have seeped into the carpet. I am looking for a deep cleaning carpet machine not over 0. Which is the best and what are the pros and cons of it?

    • ANSWER:
I have 2 cats & 2 dogs. Naturally there have been accidents - urine, vomit, a kidney infection. Here's my story. So through all of the pet encounters, I was trying all the different products to clean up the messes. There are several specialty products for pets. DO NOT BUY THESE. None of them worked. And if you go the Oxy Clean route beware - I have heard horror stories about Oxy Clean destroying carpet. They were all over priced, and never really cleaned the mess. They would either saturate the stains or mask the smell for a few days. Even the ones that were designed for steamers. As far as steaming, here is the problem. With a steamer, you are pushing water and whatever chemical you are using down into the carpet. If the chemical is soapy, you are not breaking the stain apart. Instead you are just saturating it in the carpet. Believe me, I used everything you can think of.

I now use one thing and one thing only to clean up after the pets. Genesis 950 is an all purpose cleaner that actually breaks the bond of stains. It is designed to work with water to actually get in the stain. Once it does this, it fully breaks it apart and the steamer sucks up all of the stain. If you are not breaking the bond like 950 does, you do not get rid of the stain and the urine smell will return. Look at any other questions posted on here about pet urine stains. they all say they cleaned and scrubbed but the smell is still there. It's cause other products don't break the stain apart. For this reason I say it is not so imprtant you invest in a steamer, just make sure you get the right cleaning product. I have steamers. I have a Bissell. Which is great, but with the 950, it cleans without even steaming. On occassion I will put 950 in the steamer, but very rarely ever go that far. I do rent a rug doctor twice a year and clean the entire carpets with 950 in the rug doctor. To me, the rug doctor is a good steamer, and I perfer to rent it over buying a big cleaner because of the room it would take up.

Another plus to the product is it is environmentally friendly and non toxic. It won't make your pets sick. In fact one of my cats loves rolling around in it after I clean with it. Granted I don't encourage that, but she doesn't listen.

I found 950 at a garage and bought it to remove paint that was stained in my carpets. Since then I have used it for nearly every cleaning dilemma I have had. If you can not find any near you, it is worth buying on line at www.amerikalstore.com

  6. QUESTION:
What is the best carpet cleaner for pet stains?
I have a carpet cleaner but what is the best product to put in the machine?

    • ANSWER:
Oxy Clean works very well! Here's how you use it:

      1. Remove as much of the excess stain as possible.

      2. Mix OxiClean Versatile Stain Remover powder with water (asdirected on packaging). Be sure that powder is completely dissolved.

      3. Apply only enough solution to completely saturate the stain. Wait 1 to 5 minutes. Do not allow to dry.

      4. Blot well to remove excess moisture with a clean, dry white towel.

      5. Repeat as necessary.

      6. Rinse well with clean water and blot-dry thoroughly.

      7. Allow to dry, then vacuum.

  7. QUESTION:
Why would you or why wouldn't you hire a professional carpet cleaner?
A few facts. I don't care what you own, my carpet cleaning equipment cleans with 5x the power, 5x the suction and is 70 degrees hotter than anything you own. The machine I own is so powerful it needs not one, but two outlets to run on 2 circuits. If those aren't 20 amp circuits in your bathroom or kitchen, I have to run one cord off a generator, because I will trip your circuit breakers. The cord with the less amount of energy draw will be fine in a 15 amp circuit, provided little or nothing else is plugged into the circuit. Even jusat machine vs machine, I leave homeowners in the dust. I have materials, skills and training to make me better than all consumers and 90% of the so-called pros.

So your carpet is much cleaner and much drier. It is costing you about a room to have me do your carpet. I am about the cheapest pros out there. Not only can I clean your carpet and upholstery, I can restretch your carpet, repair tears and pulls, re-color faded and bleached areas. I can remove pet stains far better than you can. I can remove stains you have 0% chance of removing like red wine or red kool aide.
I'm darn good at what I do. Some people have be blown away with what I've done for them. This past few months, I've had to roll prices back to 1990 levels, yet some folks see no benefit to hiring me and insist on making mold with their 0 Hoover or Bissell.
I can't win. This is supposed to be my busiest time of the year. I've spent about ,750 on newspaper ads and Google ads the past month. Last week's sales were 0. This weeks sales were 5. I'm dead. This has never happened to me before. This time last year, most weeks were ,500-3,000 in sales. I've let both my helpers go. I have never seen it so bad. My business is in a free fall. Why?

    • ANSWER:
Your business is in a free fall for the same reason others are. It's the bad economy, and people are only spending money on really necessary things. Many are losing their jobs, and homes, and are unsure of their futures, so they're saving eveywhere they can. Whenthe economy improves, so will your business.

  8. QUESTION:

    Any suggestions are appreciated.

  10. QUESTION:
What is the best carpet cleaning product.?
I have a husband, two year old, and cats and a dog so my carpet sees a lot of stains. The stains range from oil from my husbands shoes, drink spills, pet stains, etc. I need a good carpet cleaner to get these things out of my carpet (for a reasonable price) that I can get somewhere like target or walmart. I have family coming for the holidays so something that works well please! Thanks in advance!

    • ANSWER:
Try a powder called 'Resolve' for general spot cleaning. For oil try 'Awesome,' it's a dollar and awesome. I think it's only available at the dollar tree or dollar general if you have those stores. For the whole carpet, rent a bissell or a rug doctor carpet shampoo machine from lowes or a grocerie store. Hope that helped. Oh, and for pet stains...get something to remove protein stains, any kind of stain that can come from a human like, urine, vomit, or blood.

  11. QUESTION:
CAT URINE! How to get rid of the smell?
    Hello,

My $%&@ing cat peed on the carpet a few days ago. I caught it right away and soaked it up as best as I could. Then I used a pet-stain chemical and cleaned the carpet, followed by extraction with a carpet cleaning machine.

The smell won't die! Any suggestions on how to rid myself of this horrible, horrible odor?

    • ANSWER:
If the carpet is newly soiled, first absorb as much of the cat urine as possible using paper towels or an old towel. Place towels over the cat urine area and tread on them so as to absorb as much wetness as possible. Repeat with dry towels until no more moisture can be absorbed.

If the cat urine has dried and you are not sure where the soiled area is you can use a black light (pictured above) to detect it. In a darkened room the black light will pick up urine and other stains. Hand held black lights can be purchased for between to

      2. Next, wet the area with a solution of 50% white vinegar and 50% water. Make sure you use enough of the solution to penetrate the fibres deep down. Allow it to dry. You can assist drying by blotting with paper towels as described above. A fan can also be used to assist drying. The acidity of the vinegar will neutralize the ammonia in the cat urine.
      3. When it's dry, apply a liberal amount of baking soda over the affected area and drizzle it with a quarter of a cup of hydrogen peroxide mixed with a teaspoon of dishwashing detergent. Work it in with a scrubbing brush or your fingers (be sure to wear rubber gloves) to dissolve the baking soda and work it down into the carpet. Allow it to dry. Then vacuum.

The vinegar will neutralize the ammonia and hydrogen peroxide is a powerful oxidizer capable of killing bacteria which cause the urine smells. Baking soda is a well known deodorizer which absorbs odors. Sprinkle it on your carpet monthly then vacuum up to keep your carpet smelling fresh all the time.

Important. Never use ammonia or ammonia-based products on the carpet. One of the ingredients of urine is ammonia and your cat may well be encouraged to re-offend in the same area if it detects the smell of ammonia. Many household cleaner cleaners contain ammonia so be sure to read the label.

You may have to repeat the above process a few times for heavily soiled area

  12. QUESTION:
What is the best cleaner to use to get old pet stains out of my carpet?
I'm going to use one of the carpet shampooers you can rent at the store.

Someone told me you can use Ammonia. She used it and said it got out the stains.

There's also the pet stain shampoos they sell.

What would you recommend? When we moved to my new apartment, my dog had a hard time learning to pee on his puppy pads and there's too many old stains to scrub them all down individually.

    • ANSWER:
Nature's Miracle will work in the shampoo machine and it has enzymes that digest the bacteria in pet waste and doesn't just cover up the odor. And it is non-toxic and safe for children and pets. Using the machine will get all of the way down to the padding which is good because you won't walk back up the odor after cleaning the carpet. You can find Nature's Miracle at pet stores or big discounters in the pet aisle.

  13. QUESTION:
what is the best way to have carpets cleaned ? professional steam cleaning, shampooing, or rent a machine?
and do it yourself ?? also, any products that are good for pet stains if i decide to clean them myself ??

    • ANSWER:
I think a professional cleaning would be best. They usually target the pet stains first, and remove them before cleaning the whole carpet. We have an outfit where I live that uses a granular cleaner. It lifts the dirt without steam or water so you can walk on the rug right away. Too much moisture from steam or shampoo actually makes the carpet pick up soil easier and faster. Frequent vacuuming helps the rug stay cleaner between all-over carpet cleaning. Try to keep Fido or Fluffy away from carpeted areas. Pet stains are difficult to remove, especially if they are left in place for a long time. If you do decide to clean the rug yourself, be sure to vacuum it thoroughly and get after the pet stains before using the rug shampooer.

  14. QUESTION:
I have a carpet cleaning machin but I need a cleaner to go in it to clean from wall to wall?
I bought a carpet cleaner at walmart, but i need the detergent to go into it to clean up puppy odors and stains. They are house broke now, but I can not stand the smell of dog urin in my apartment anymore. I need something pet friendly and safe since I am renting. Help please.

    • ANSWER:
You can buy detergent for your carpet cleaning machine at Home Depot or Lowes. Most hardware stores also carry detergent for carpet cleaners.

I do not recommend using anything except detergent made just for those type of machines. Any other product could either corrode the machine or harm your carpet.

Since you're dealing with pet odors, you might see if you can find a lemon-scented detergent. Lemon scents help eliminate pet odors.

If you can't find a lemon-scented detergent, just use what you do find. Any detergent will help with the odors, but it's important not to use any product that wasn't made specifically for a carpet cleaning machine.

      Hope this helps.

I know they sell a bottle of something for pet stains and odors, I seem to recall that the guys who cleaned the carpets at my fathers would just add something to the water in the machines....and I want to say it was some common thing, like ammonia, or bleach or something...a very small amount...

how can I clean badly stained carpet?
I don't want to hire someone to do this. I am willing to give it some elbow grease if I can find some type of cleaner that can remove the stains. It's mostly coffee and pet stains and overall is just dingy.

    • ANSWER:
you can rent the steam machines at the local rent-all or home hardware store

  20. QUESTION:
What is the correct way to steamclean your carpet?
How many times should I go back and forth? On the wash setting? When do I use the rinse setting? How many times should I do that? I have pet stains. Is it ok to keep holding the trigger down while going back and forth over the stain? or is that bad for the carpet? What speed should I be moving?
    Thanks for any tip!

    • ANSWER:
Go over the carpet two times in wash mode and 2 times rinsing. Vacuum at least 4 passes with the wand. Treat the pet stains before going over the carpet with either pet stain soap or household ammonia diluted in water 10 to 1. If the stains are bad, let them sit about 30 minutes before using the machine wand.

The biggest thing is to not "soak" the carpet. If you do, you must really vacuum a lot. Go slowly, about 1 inch per second.

Make sure you open the windows and put a fan in the room to speed the drying. Also, put down towels in the areas where you may have to walk after cleaning. Try to stay off it until completely dry.

  21. QUESTION:
Can professional carpet cleaner companies get out old stains, like coffee and pet stains?
These stains are pretty set in, and have been cleaned with a rental machine many times and not come out. Should I bother with hiring someone to try and get it clean? We will be renting the property out once we move out of the house. Thanks!

    • ANSWER:
Choosing the best carpet cleaner companies is a little more involved than heading to the supermarket and picking up a can of spray foam carpet cleaner. Depending on the fiber composition of the carpets, some companies will be superior to others. Pay attention if are new in business or have some guaranties if your they destroy your carpet.

  22. QUESTION:
What is the best carpet cleaner machine (small version) to help clean up pet stains.?
I have gotten the upright kind that is NOT what I want. I want more or less a spot cleaner. What have you used that was successful on dark dog diarrhea?

    • ANSWER:
Bissel's litte green carpet cleaning machine... it's like at Wal-Mart these days... pick up some of their enzyme cleaner concentrate (in the pet section, pink container...) and mix it about 1/10 with the water... it works great, and you can buy regular cleaner for other stains (but the enzyme cleaners work pretty good on most stains, not just pet stains...)

Make sure to get the stuff in the pet section sold as a refill for spray bottles, not the Pet Stain Steamer stuff, it's not nearly as good.

  23. QUESTION:
How can I get cat urine out of a carpet?
We have a cat that has one spot in the carpet where he has gone to the bathroom. This is no longer an occurrence, however I have tried every pet stain and odor remover to get the stain and smell out of the spot but none of them work. I have used a heavy duty carpet steamer and I use a smaller 'Green Machine' as well. Is there anything I can use to remove the stain and smell from the carpet?

    • ANSWER:
I just recently had to clean an area that one of our cats use to habitually return to so I'll tell you what I did. We own a Rug Doctor machine and I used that to clean the entire carpet which brought up the old stain, probably from the backing since the stain wasn't visible prior. I went back over the stain with the Odor Eliminator added to the water in the machine and that helped the smell. Then there is Urine Eliminator from Rug Doctor that is in a spray bottle and after wetting the spot and putting wet towels on it for 24 hours, the stain had come up from the carpet completely. It's probably still in the backing but I'm really impressed with how the stain turned out. Our cat isn't mobile anymore so she won't be returning to the spot so I can't say if that stopped the problem in the long term. But I'm pretty happy with the results so far.

I also use Nature's Miracle from a pet store, in the citrus formula. Cats don't like citrus so supposedly the citrus scent keeps them away from the spot. Might help the situation if nothing else does.

  24. QUESTION:
How do you get dog urine out of carpet?
I have a carpet cleaner but what kind of chemical will get the smell out?
I have tried every carpet cleaning chemical on the market and that stuff made for pet odors is a joke! Has anyone found any home concoction that works, something else that I could use along with my carpet cleaner?

    • ANSWER:
Well, dog urine is difficult to remove from carpeting.... I would use some dissolved baking soda with your usual shampoo.... Baking soda is excellent at removing tough odors and generally will NOT harm most fabrics/finishes. I would just dissolve it in the water you would put in the tank of your machine... I think just adding it to the water might clog it up... So, dissolve it in HOT water first.... I use my wet/dry shopvac to remove tough stains/odors from my carpets.... I find it works better than most commercial carpet cleaners.... Also, I don't have the exact recipe but, the guys from mythbusters have a concoction for getting rid of "skunk smell" which would probably work for urine as well. Just type in MYTHBUSTERS and I'm sure you can find it pretty easily....

      Good luck...

  25. QUESTION:
What cleaning solution should I use on my carpet?
A friend is loaning me her carpet steam cleaner. She says it does a nice job in her house on her carpets.

I do not have visible stains on my carpet. The main problem is pet urine odor.

What solution should I use with this machine for that type of problem? My friend goes to the grocery store and gets Rug Doctor products to use with her machine. But I never see a Rug Doctor solution that is to be used to get rid of urine odor.

    Thanks
I see that Rug doctor has Urine Eliminator but this is to be applied to individual stains. I want something for urine that you use with the machine on the whole carpet.

    • ANSWER:
Try a carpet cleaner and add white vinegar. The white vinegar kills the odour. I clean my carpets all the time with a pulmans carpet cleaner (I have a wet vac) to which I add a liberal dose of white vinegar - and Ive got 2 dogs who are allowed in the house (they had some accidents as puppies).
